Bruce Klauber Salutes the Legends of Jazz Drumming - DIGITAL DOWNLOAD
Price: $5.00
Released in conjunction with our DCI video, “Legends of Jazz Drumming,”
the concept of this CD was to pay to tribute to those drummers who had hits,
semi-hits or were associated with a particular title. Hence, we have Gene,
Buddy, Cozy, Max, Art, Joe Morello, Ray Bauduc and Sonny Payne. What put
this project across was the fabulous playing of reedman Larry McKenna,
pianist Paul Arslanian and my long-time colleague, Bruce Kaminsky.
They make the drummer sound good.

Gene Krupa In Concert: 1971 - DIGITAL DOWNLOAD
Price: $5.00
Krupa was much more active in the 1970 to 1973
period than any formal record indicates, and
did a good deal of his playing with regional,
“traditional” groups such as Al Winters’ Six Star
International Jazz Band featured here. Krupa
sounds as if he was feeling very, very well
that day, indicted by his fine solo on “Perdido.”
Marcus Belgrave’s trumpet is a standout.

Sing Sing Sing, aka The Rocking Mr. Krupa: December 26, 1953 - DIGITAL DOWNLOAD
Price: $5.00
Gene did several all-star recordings after returning from Japan
with Teddy Napoleon and Charlie Ventura, then re-formed the Jazz
Trio with multi-reedman/trumpeter/harmonica player Eddie Shu.
Shu’s first outing with the Trio is a stellar one, and the entire
outing is loose and swinging. Dig Teddy Napoleon’s left hand.
Eddie would only put up with the lack of a bass for a year or so.
In late 1954, Gene finally relented, and Englishman John Drew was
hired as bassist.

THE ORIGINAL BENNY GOODMAN QUARTET AT CARNEGIE HALL: June 29, 1973 - DIGITAL DOWNLOAD
Price: $5.00
Very, very rare concert - in superb fidelity - of Goodman, Krupa, Wilson
and Hampton in their first Carnegie Hall appearance since 1938. Though
Gene Krupa was quite ill at this juncture, his playing is superb, as is the
playing of the rest of the group. Bassist Slam Stewart was added to any of
these reunion dates, and often referred to as "The King" as our "designated hitter"

LIONEL HAMPTON BIG BAND WITH GENE KRUPA, TEDDY WILSON AND RPY ELDRIDGE: July 5,1972 - DIGITAL DOWNLOAD
Price: $5.00
This show, a fund raiser of some sort featuring Hamp's band of the time, was written
about in Down Beat magazinebut was thought not to be recorded. The leader, who just
cannot stop playing, is really swinging, as are Teddy Wilson, Gene Krupa and Roy
Eldridge. Supposedly, Gene asked Hamp not to call "Sing Sing Sing," but in spite of
some ragged passages. he plays the heck out of it... on Bernard Purdie's drums, yet.

GENE KRUPA JAZZ TRIO IN JAPAN: APRIL 18,22,23 1952 - DIGITAL DOWNLOAD
Price: $5.00
Gene, Charlie and Teddy Napoleon were treated like heroes
when they visited Tokyo in 1952. They were the first American
jazz group ever to play there and opened up the country for
American jazz. And the Jazz Trio never sounded better. This
copy was made for us expressly from the Japanese Victor masters.

GENE KRUPA AT NEWPORT, CA July 1958 - DIGITAL DOWNLOAD
Price: $5.00
Not listed in any discography, this recent discovery has been
touted as being recorded in 1955. That's doubtful, as this quartet
- Eddie Wasserman on reeds, Ronnie Ballon piano, Jimmy Gannon
on bass, and Gene - didn't really get together until around 1958.
Voice of America's Willis J. Conover does the introduction honors
to this swinging, professionally recorded set, highlighted by a
12-plus minute version of "Stompin' at the Savoy"

HEY, HERE'S GENE KRUPA: MAY 1957 - DIGITAL DOWNLOAD
Price: $5.00
This fabulous LP by one of the strongest versions of the Jazz
Quartet - Gene, Eddie Shu, Dave McKenna and Wendall Marchall -
got lost in the shuffle through the years. And that's, unfortunate,
as it's one of Gene's best. Eddie Shu shines on "Chelsea Bridge,"
and there's ample solo space for the leader on "Gene's Solo Flight"
(Listen to that 24-inch ride cymbal) and other tunes. Pianist
McKenna was the perfect pianist for the group. He was in and out
of many organizations at this time, and the record shows he left
Gene to join Dick Johnson, then Bobby Hackett. Bassist Wendell
Marshall, first cousin of the legendary Jimmy Blanton, was on
hand as a sub. A versatile modernist, marchall spent some years
with the likes of Ellington, Art Blakely and many others. Gene's
groups with Eddie Shu were his most modern. Outside of a few
"set pieces", there was never an attempt to duplicate the
arrangements used by the groups with Charlie Ventura. By and
large, Gene just let Eddie, and the other players, blow.

THE EDDIE CONDON FLOR SHOW: DECEMBER 13, 1948 - DIGITAL DOWNLOAD
Price: $5.00
Guitarist/raconteur Condon had a television program broadcast from New York City in the late 1940s. Airchecks from that program remain very, very rare and very, very sought-after. This program, for example -- plus a few numbers from a later show--features artists that include Joe Bushkin, Bob Haggert, Sarah Vaughan, Billy Butterfield, Woody Herman, Charlie Shavers, Charlie Barnet, George Wettling, and the tap dancing/singing/drumming of one Buddy Rich. Whatever one's feelings about Condon, he certainly brought together the finest "mainstream" artists around, and had the good sense to feature them on early television.

The Gene Krupa Story - DIGITAL DOWNLOAD
Price: $5.00
The soundtrack to the famed Columbia biopic of 1959 has been inexplicably
unavailable for over 40 years. Various drummers through the years, including
Mickey Sheen, have claimed that they played drums on the soundtrack. Perhaps
they did play a part in performing on the incidental music portions, but--
write this down -- Gene Krupa, without a doubt plays drums on these tracks.
Through the song selection is on the odd side -- no "Drum Boogie,"
"Sing Sing Sing," etc... -- many percussionists believe that Krupa never
played better than he did on these tracks. And joke about Sal Mineo if you
must, but no one could have done a better job in miming the man himself.

GENE KRUPA ON THE DAVE GARROWAY RADIO SHOW 5/2/1954 - DIGITAL DOWNLOAD
Price: $5.00
Dave Garroway, famed host of television's "Today Show"
and a great fan and supporter of jazz (he discovered,
as the story goes, Jackie & Roy), was one of the most
thoughtful and intelligent media personalities in the
business. In the mid-1950s, he hosted a national radio
program called "Garroway at Large" that featured the
most incredible--and diverse--array of guests ever to
appear on any program. In this rare, one-hour program
from 1954, Dave plays host to, among other folks, Gene
Krupa. Gene was literally and figuratively beating the
drum in those days for the opening of the Krupa/Cozy Cole
drum school in New York city. Gene does a 15-minute or
so segment with the host here, gives him drum lessons,
etc. This represents, by the way, the only recorded
evidence of Gene playing on a practice pad.
