Several classic big band films from the 1940s have been floating around in mediocre quality for years. Two of them--"Las Vegas Nights" and our newest on DVD, "Second Chorus" -- have just come to us in stellar condition. "Second Chorus," with Fred Astaire and Paulette Goddard, among other, presents the definitive few of the legendary Artie Shaw band of 1940 in full swing. Artie has a nice speaking part as well. Musically, you will see a drum giant named Nick Fatool on screen throughout, but given the dates of the actual filming of this picture, coupled with the sound of the drums on the soundtrack, has led many folks to believe that the gentleman who preceded Fatool in Shaw's drum chair may actually have been playing on the soundtrack. Get this one. It's a swinging picture.
